Baan Dek Pon Jaak Faa
03.14
Doi Saket, Chiangmai
Baan Dek means children’s home; Pon Jaak Faa means ‘Blessing from Heaven’.
Yut and Mo-mo have a heart to help children that are very poor and at high risk of being sold at a young age. They are of the Wa and Hmong tribal groups. They have been instrumental in helping many children at imminent risk to find safe homes to be cared for. They have also cared for at-risk children during school holidays for many years. As well, they have 3 children of their own. They joined the BridgeWorks co-operative early in 2010.
Yut and Mo-mo live on the outskirts of Chiangmai on 7 rai of land. Their concern for children that they have not been able to find homes for, has led them to open their own home this year to full-time care for some children that are in desperate circumstances. At this point they do not have any assistance, but are going ahead in faith, trusting that God will enable and provide for them. They have taken in 5 young children to begin with, and have joined the Rice cultivation program that BridgeWorks facilitates.
As well, they are cultivating vegetables on the BridgeWorks plot of land, and helping to mentor the young guys at the BridgeWorks centre at the same time. During the recent summer break, they had 14 at-risk teenagers in their home for 2 months, and during this time Yut taught the teenage guys how to make knives (he is an accomplished smithy), which the guys were then able to sell at market.
Even though Baan Dek Pon Jaak Faa has their own land, they have no access to an adequate water supply. Consequently, they need to rent land to grow rice and other crops. Their vegetables are grown on the BridgeWorks site, but the fruit trees on their own property are not productive because of lack of water.
BridgeWorks would like to source the funds to cover the expenses to lay down the 2 kms of pipe and equipment that is needed to bring a permanent water supply to their property. If you are able to help with this, please visit our Donate page to make a donation.
